Matthew 11:28

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Understanding Matthew 11:28

No one could ever claim that he was able to give rest to all those who come to him with their troubles except the Lord Jesus Christ. This is because the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth bodily to redeem us. Everyone who came to the Lord Jesus Christ and trusted Him as Saviour and Lord is enjoying rest beyond anything this world could ever offer.

Because of our sins, we can’t have peace with the Holy God. Our sin has made us enemies of God, and in that, there is no peace or rest. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who can reconcile us with God because he paid the full penalty of our sins on the cross of Calvary. He arose from the dead victoriously. Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ enjoy the rest of knowing that their sins are forgiven, and God is not the judge that will condemn them, but rather the loving Father who gave His only begotten Son to save them.

Fear is the opposite of rest. The fear of death is tormenting all. In Christ, we rest assured that death is only a gateway to Glory with Him forever.

The Lord Jesus Christ is not only our Redeemer but our good Shepherd, as well. We can bring all our needs that trouble us to Him and rest knowing that He is willing and able to provide all the help we need. He promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

The Lord Jesus Christ can give rest to all who come to Him because He is the almighty God, the blessed Redeemer, the risen Saviour, the Prince of Peace, the Father of eternity and the good Shepherd. Will you come to him? Don’t reject this gracious invitation. Tomorrow might be too late.

(Jesus said) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28

Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ – John 3:7
